The Zephyrs lost a sloppy game #1 @ the Isotopes, but showed a few signs of life. Mike hit his 10th homerun of the season, Jordan made a diving play deep in the hole at short stop before hopping up to gun down the runner at 1st, and Dan made a diving catch in right.
Facing elimination in game #2, this pitcher's duel came to life in the top of the 8th inning. Trailing two to nothing, Adam put the first two Isotopes on base with a full-count walk and a 2-strike hit by pitch. Trevor came out of the bullpen (or center field) to battle out of the jam.
After Trevor allowed two base hits, the Isotopes had extended the lead to three and appeared on the verge of breaking the game open. With the bases loaded and one out, the Isotopes hit a slow grounder toward short stop. Jordan charged the ball and gambled, making the relatively long throw across his body to Doug at 2nd base. Doug turned the double play flawlessly, and the bang-bang play at 1st base gave the Zephyrs life. This was the turning-point of the game and easily the defensive play of the season.
Now trailing by three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning, Phil sparked a rally with a double down the left field line. Marc advanced Phil to 3rd base before Ethan earned the RBI to cut the deficit to two. With no one on base and two outs, Max legged-out an infield single before back-to-back triples into left-center by Trevor and Adam tied the game. With 1 out in the 9th inning, Marc delivered the walk-off single to right to drive in Doug from 2nd base.
Game #3 picked up where Game #2 ended – Doug and Tommy produced back-to-back hits to put the Zephyrs up by 1. Unfortunately, over the next 3.5 innings, the short-handed Zephyr infield committed 5 errors en route to a 7-run deficit. Another round of hits from Doug and Tommy in the 6th inning cut the deficit to 4. With 2 runners on and 2 outs in the 8th inning, Trevor connected with another clutch triple, making the score 6 to 8. The Isotopes stifled the Zephyr bats in the 9th inning. The Isotopes went on to beat the Titans in 3 highly competitive games (6-4, 4-6, 10-9).

New 2008 CTBL teams
Thi VanAusdal - 1/1/2008
Central Texas Baseball League, Inc., welcomes a new expansion team to our Spring 2008 season. The Austin Zephyrs, managed by Andrew Kos, have joined our league. Andrew started the Zephyrs during the 2003 fall season. They won the playoff tournament by going 2-1 in pool play and winning the tiebreaker over two other teams, then avenging their loss to the Knights with a 16-3 shellacking in the championship game.
...The Zephyrs and A's, another expansion team, faced off in the early contest at Dell Diamond for 5th Place (12 team league}. These two teams worked through a single-elimination bracket the prior weekend to get here, and were the 5th and 6th place teams in the regular season. The Zephyrs jumped on top early, scoring 3 runs in the first two innings without getting a hit as A's starter Brett Malchik struggled to find the zone. Phil Davis chased Malchik with a 2-out, 2-run single in the 3rd inning, the first Zephyrs hit of the game to make it 5-1. Zane Hensley went the rest of the way to keep the game close. For the Zephyrs, Chris Sobieszczyk started on the hill and handled the tough A's lineup. Marc Carlson, Phil Davis, and Tom Navarijo pitched the last innings to put it away.
