When Rich Pidaniy formed the Texas Tigers after the 2007 Summer season, he expected to build a team that would contend for championships in the future. The future is now, as his Tigers fought the regular-season champion Diablos hard, winning 4-3. Chase Rogers started and went 6+ with 6 Ks, Dave Schaeffer held the Diablos to a run in an inning of relief and Kris Kirbie got the Save. The Diablos continued their strong play all season, getting strong pitching from Larry Lumbreras and Gilbert Jasso. More details are on the
Tigers page!
The Travis Tile Sales Dodgers won 12-3, defeating the Texas Land & Homes Cubs with a complete effort. Jason Winkler started and got the Win on the hill, and also drove a 3-run homer into the upper deck at Dell Diamond in the first inning to stake himself to a 4-1 lead. The Dodgers cruised after that to win the 3rd Place game.
The Zephyrs and Mano's Restaurant A's faced off in the early contest at Dell Diamond for 5th Place. These two teams had worked through a single-elimination bracket the prior weekend to get here, and were the 5th and 6th place teams in the regular season. The Zephyrs jumped on top early, scoring 3 runs in the first two innings without getting a hit as A's starter Brett Malchik struggled to find the zone. Phil Davis chased Malchik with a 2-out, 2-run single in the 3rd inning, the first Zephyrs hit of the game to make it 5-1. Zane Hensley went the rest of the way to keep the game close. For the Zephyrs, Chris Sobieszczyk started on the hill and handled the tough A's lineup. Marc Carlson, Phil Williams, and Tom Navarijo pitched the last innings to put it away.
