A's 3 Rangers 2
This one was a hard fought game as both teams trade punches through the first 7 innings. Scott Holcomb (3-0, 2.33 ERA) starts and pitches a great game striking out 8 but leaves with a no decision as the A's give him little help on offense (and defense for that matter). With the score tied 1-1 going into the 8th, the Rangers lead off the top of the frame with a walk then the following batter bunts it to the pitcher who promptly throws it into right field giving the Rangers runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Cory Thell (1-0, 0.00 ERA) strikes out the side but also hits a batter to score a run. Rangers 2 A's 1.
Tim Fall leads off the bottom of the same frame with a single and the next A's batter reaches on an E6. A 6-4 fielders choice puts runners on 1st and 3rd with one out before the Rangers' starter throws one to the backstop that bounces right back to the catcher but Tim manages to slide in safely under the throw as the catcher fails to field the ball cleanly tying the game at 2. Joey Williams (2 for 3, 2 RBI) follows with a clutch single to right giving the A's a lead they would not relinquish. The Rangers pitcher held the A's hitters mostly in check scattering 11 hits striking out 7. The A's are now 11-2 (.846) all time vs the Rangers as they get ready to face the Isotopes who beat the A's earlier this season.
11/03/12
A's 22 Colt .45's 3
Todd Holcomb (3-1, 1.93 ERA) pitches a complete game striking out 13. Cory Thell knocks in 7 with a couple of dingers. Joey Williams and Timothy Oertli also go yard.
10/28/12
Los Gigantes 13 A's 6
Los Gigantes open up a can of whoop ass on the A's beating them by a touchdown. Not much hitting and sloppy defense contribute to the beatdown. The A's will lick their wounds as they head into the playoffs on a 2 game losing streak.
10/27/12
Isotopes 6 A's 5
A rare loss for the A's as they manage only 6 hits and commit two errors including one that allows the game winning run to score. Can't win 'em all.
10/21/12
A's 29 Phillies 0
Todd Holcomb (2-0, 1.50 ERA) pitches 6 innings striking out 11 scattering 3 singles as the A's shutout both the Colt .45's and Phillies over the weekend scoring 43 runs without committing an error. Efrain Camacho goes 5 for 5 knocking in 6 with 3 bombs and 2 doubles. Tim Fall hits for the cycle going yard twice and drives in 8. Cory Thell goes 6 for 7 to raise his team leading avg to .727 and also goes yard. The Phillies come close to scoring single runs twice but their base running mistakes cost them. The A's now face the Isotopes next Saturday for a chance to clinch the #1 seed in the playoffs.
10/20/12
A's 14 Colt .45's 0
Scott Holcomb (3-0, 1.50 ERA) goes a strong five allowing 3 singles while striking out 5. Tim Fall closes it out with a couple of scoreless innings in relief as the A's remain unbeaten. The A's play a clean game committing no errors thanks to their strong pitching. Joey Williams goes 5 for 5 with 5 RBI and Tim Fall knocks in a couple as he goes 3 for 4 with a two bagger. Quick turn around for the A's as they now face the Phillies.
10/07/12
A's 18 Cubbies 4
Efrain Camacho and Pat Hines each hit Grand Slams while Scott Holcomb (2-0, 2.57 ERA) grabs the win for the A's who are now the league's lone unbeaten team. The "finally stacked" Cubbies score in the top of the first and hold the A's scoreless in the bottom of the same frame but the A's still manage to go 19 for 40 (.475) at the plate as they have now scored a league high 63 runs through the first three games. Cory Thell also goes yard while B-Rod goes 4 for 4 with a two bagger. The A's are now 8-1-1 (.850) all-time vs the Cubbies.
09/23/12
A's 31 Royals 0
Todd Holcomb (1-0, 2.25 ERA) goes the first 5 striking out 9 while the A's offense erupts for a team record 31 runs. The previous high was 29 runs scored on two occasions (29-7 vs Titans 8/22/10 playoff game and 29-7 vs Astros 5/03/09). Cory Thell (6 for 7 with 7 RBI and hits for the cycle) starts the scoring going oppo then B-Rod follows with a laser over the 400 foot sign in center to give the A's a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Tim Fall also gets a hold of one giving the A's their first three dongs of the season. A run here and a run there before the 9th inning onslaught that saw 15 runs scored without an out before the Royals wave the white flag. The A's pitching depth will be tested next weekend as they face both Los Gigantes and the 28+ Summer Champion Isotopes.
09/09/12
A's 14 Rangers 3
Pitching and defense wins this one for the A's (1-0) as the offense gets off to a sluggish start. Todd Holcomb goes 3 for 3 wih a triple but the rest of the A's offense only manages to hit 5 singles. The A's score 14 runs thanks to 11 walks, 5 errors, a passed ball and 6 wild pitches. Scott Holcomb (1-0, 0.00 ERA) makes another one of his usual strong starts allowing no runs while striking out five Rangers (0-1) to keep the A's in the ball game early on. The A's are now 10-2 (.833) all-time vs the Rangers.
